6th batch

24 Sep

Here are my five “for the week.” We really haven’t been doing it weekly anymore, which is fine with me. It gives me a little more time to work on them.

Oh, and the dates on the pictures have nothing to do with the pictures themselves. I just randomly picked them.

And here’s the current sticker on my car. For those of you who don’t know, it’s totally customizable.

Here are some things that have been going on recently..

I give my first interview tomorrow in front of class. I’m a little nervous.

I pulled a piece of wisdom tooth out of my gums yesterday, so I went to the dentist today and he filled the hole with awful tasting gauze soaked in some kind of medicine. It has to stay in there for a week. It keeps releasing really bad tasting medicine into my mouth.

Eric is moving out sometime soon. We’re either going to have to find another new roommate, or just abandon ship. But I’m sure it’ll all work out somehow.

I was walking around campus the other day and there was something really irritating my eyeball. I went into the bookstore to buy a brownie and the cashier goes “Here’s some free gum, and a free sample of eyedrops.” Weird, right?

Just finished Ender’s Game for the second time. I’m about to start reading the Harry Potter series.

mm..I think that’s it for now.

pulling teeth

11 Sep

I had my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday. It was pretty nuts, because I was informed in my checkup that I would be put to sleep during the procedure because the bottom two teeth that hadn’t crowned would have to be surgically removed. When I got to the office, I found that the surgeon that was going to operate on me was out of the country and I’d be having a stand in. I was told this by a woman that would be assisting in my surgery. This woman was arguing pretty hard with another lady that worked there, so when she was bringing me to the operating room she was all pissed off. I just kept trying to make jokes with her to lighten the mood, but she wasn’t having it.

So I’m sitting in the chair, nervous as crap, and the surgeon comes in. He gives me some pain killer and starts explaining stuff to me, although at that point I couldn’t really talk or understand what was going on. I was conscious though. They started removing them and I kept looking around at them as if to say “HOLY CRAP I’M STILL AWAKE” (since I couldn’t talk). I remember flinching in pain, making weird noises, swallowing blood, and hearing my teeth cracking. It all seems like a bad dream now though..I don’t really remember the feeling of pain, just flinching because of it, if that makes any sense.

A really unfortunate (and I guess rare since they didn’t mention it; I had to look it up) after effect of getting your wisdom teeth removed is chronic hiccups. I am extremely tired because I’m on some hardcore pain medications, but I can’t go to sleep because the hiccups won’t let me. I’m pretty sure this is one of the annoying experiences I’ve ever had in my life.

I’m really really looking forward to full recovery

week 4

1 Sep

Just got back from watching Inglourious Basterds. It was really really good, I highly recommend it.

Here are this weeks projects. The colors got all jacked up in some of them, but I just decided to leave them as-is.

School is going really well so far. Much better than I expected, though I do have to give speeches a lot now. I think I’m getting more comfortable with it finally. I walked into my interviewing class today not sure of what was going on because I missed last Friday. I asked a girl next to me and she said we had to give speeches about ourselves today. “OH SHIII…”. So I got up when it was my turn and free-styled and it turned out ok. I even made fun of myself for being nervous, but my teacher said I did really well.

In my advertising class we get to take a 3 day trip to St. Louis. I’m really excited about it.

Wisdom teeth are coming out on Sept. 10th. I’m so nervous I could crap all over myself.

a day late

17 Aug

Here are mine for the past week. I had a lot going on so I had to throw some of them together…I just really didn’t want to be murdered. These were all pictures taken with my crappy cell phone and I added text, for better or for worse.

week 2

8 Aug

I moved from footwear to asset protection this past week at work, and so far it rules. I pretty much just stand there and draw and talk to people. And I get to leave way earlier than everyone else. Yesterday I caught someone trying to steal shoes and I stopped him. He was trying to walk out with a box that I had noticed he hadn’t come in with, so I asked to see his receipt. He started shaking and said it was in his car. So I asked him what register he went to and he couldn’t say, so he just said “F**k it” and threw the shoes down. When I opened the box there was blood on the shoes because he cut his hand while trying to get the sensor tag off, so then I lol’d. My friend Matt bought the bloody shoes for 75% off.

Flight of the Conchords season 2 came out on dvd bluray hi-def high definition DVD disc recently and I’ve been watching it like crazy. It’s funnier than I remember it being when I watched it as it was coming out.

Here’s a list of albums I’ve been listening to lately if you want to check them out. (Thanks to Korey and Justin and Brian Warren for showing me some of this)

Modest Mouse – The moon and Antarctica
Hot Chip – The warning
Tokyo Police Club – Elephant Shell
Two Gallants – self-titled
Rocky Votolato – Makers
Lukestar – Lake Toba
The Henry Clay People – For cheap or for free
Phoenix – United
Girl Talk – Feed the animals
Ratatat – LP3

Also, just finished this weeks’ projects, which as you can see are animal themed. I’m really having a good time doing all this.

five times a week

1 Aug

Justin had a good idea. We’re having an artistic “competition” where we make at least 5 artistic/creative things a week. If we fail to meet the quota, we get murdered by the other. I like the motivation because I’m not really taking anymore art or design courses but I want to keep making things.

This week I found the pictures on some random image boards, manipulated them a bit and put text on them. Except for the one that doesn’t have text of course.

I’m excited to see what’s going to come out of this competition in the upcoming weeks. Also, check out Justin’s journal. I’m sure he’ll be putting his stuff up soon.

3rd planet

2 Jul

Almost done with my summer I session. It’s been a pretty busy month for me, so I’ll be glad when it’s over. Then I’ll start summer II immediately after. Then the fall session immediately after that. Then then a winter mini session, followed by the spring session. Pretty much, I’ll be going to school without a break until I’m 24 years old. I think it’ll be worth it when I’m finally done with it though.

I made a few trips to Austin recently. Some trips were more successful than others, but I had a good time on both of them. Some highlights include kayaking in the most adventurous way possible, eating some really good food, watching Drag Me To Hell (which was hilarious), and being totally frightened when I accidentally put my face really close to a homeless guy’s face.

And when we were driving home one night we saw some bats. Well, like a ton of bats really.

That was pretty cool.

But this was cooler…

It also featured a red sparkly paint job and more epic artwork on the back.

And here’s a really poor quality cellphone video of my nephew, Ethan. He rules.

summer school

12 Jun

It’s going pretty well so far. I’m learning some basic grammar that I totally forgot apparently, and I’m getting taught a lot of things about film that I never really noticed. But wait..I’m getting ahead of myself..

I meant to start out with our (Tyler and me) first day of class. Tyler went to the bathroom and I waited outside for him. He came out whispering “Duuude…come in here and take a look at this..” Naturally I thought he was going to show me his dump so I didn’t want to. But he insisted. I didn’t have to go all the way in to see what he was talking about.

I know it’s bad quality, but as you can tell there’s someone sleeping on the floor in the bathroom stall. At first I was thinking “Ok, nobody sleeps in the bathroom on the floor. Especially when there’s a perfectly good lounge with couches right around the corner. This guy is definitely having a seizure or he’s dead.” However, if you’ll notice in the picture, there’s a backpack or something strategically placed under his head for added bathroom floor comfort. People who are dying don’t have time for that kind of luxury. So he’s definitely sleeping. It makes me wonder what could have happened in that guys day to lead up to him sleeping on the floor in the bathroom. I should have interviewed him. I’ve already made a promise to myself that I won’t ever pass up that kind of opportunity again.

ok now I’ll talk about school.

Media writing class is pretty weird, but totally bearable compared to business calculus and all that crap. Our teacher can’t be more than 5 or 6 years older than me, and it shows. She’s really big in to pop culture. She’ll be in the middle of a lecture and just start talking about current reality tv shows that I haven’t seen, like so: “..And this is when it’s appropriate to use a semi-colon. And these are the different uses of a comm…Has anybody seen Jon and Kate plus 8?! What’s up with her hair!?.” Then some sub-par jokester in the class will say “IS THIS GUNNA BE IN THE TESTS??!? BUHAHAHA..”. The funny part about that is that it IS on the test. Or at least there was a question about it on the recent quiz we’ve taken. Name 4 of Jon and Kate’s 8 children. wtf.

Film theory rules so far. Our professor is hilarious. I’d have to do an impersonation of him to convey the humor though. He has this weird phobia of people recording him or taking pictures of him, so I spent the last class period drawing him.

I’ll explain that picture a bit. He’s holding a microphone because he uses a microphone in class even though it’s definitely not needed (which is one of the many hilarious things about him). He’s saying “Zoh” because he has an accent and that’s what he says instead of “So.” The floating head above him is Charles Bronson. I drew that because we were talking about his movies. Also, I need to point out that he tucks his pants behind the tongues of his shoes, which is awesome.

A few of us went to eat a few nights ago. When we came out there was some chalk drawing on the sidewalk that sparked a debate on what the hell it was. No matter how I look at it I see a dinosaur. Chae said it was a plane.

What do you think?

i accidentally the guitar..

1 Jun

I decided yesterday that I would be much more careful with my purchases because I’ve been working a little less than usual, so naturally I’ve been getting a little less money than usual. However, past Colin decided it’d be a good idea to bid on a guitar on ebay then forget about it. So today I get on my computer and I have an email that says “Congratulations, you’ve just won a guitar that you don’t want right now.”

It’s alright I guess because I think the guitar rules big time. I’ll just have to hurry up and sell one of my others. Like, really fast.

I put a word search book that I got for my birthday in the bathroom by the toilet a few days ago. Now my number 2s take about 15-20 minutes longer to complete.
